Sunday Brunch

It’s been a full week since my last post, which was not at all the schedule I had set for myself.  But here we are.  This was a really full week for me, including a number of new experiences.  I saw and did some really wonderful things on Saturday in particular.

T-G-I-S.  I’ve probably never said that before!  But I was really off this week, mostly because (1) my seasonal allergies were on in full force, and (2) I got into a wonky, horrible sleep cycle, staying up waaaaay too late for too many nights in a row.  I used Saturday to sleep and chill and generally recover, and I earmarked Sunday for some important life management as well as some hobby time.  So for those reasons, I’m really glad to be at Sunday.  I’m feeling good about the day and the week to come.

Charcoal Round-Up

I don’t know when it happened but it seems like all of a sudden, charcoal has become a highly desirable beauty ingredient.  The purported benefit of charcoal is that it attaches to and absorbs oil and dirt.  That makes it great for products like masks, cleansers and other face treatments, where the charcoal ingredient will attract the bad stuff and pull it out of your pores.

I’ve recently used four different charcoal-based products.  Read more for my reviews.

This Week’s Playlist

It’s spring, I’m energetic, and I’m trying to push myself to be more active.  This week’s playlist features a selection of songs that get me going right now.  Of course two artists in particular are on my mind, Prince and Beyonce.  If I can absorb a glimmer of the creativity, sexiness, and self-assuredness those icons pour(ed) into their music, I’ll be in for a great spring.

What I’m Watching: Game of Thrones

Eeeeeee!  It’s here!  It’s finally here!  I have been waiting for Game of Thrones to return like a damn nerd fiend.  Rather than nerd out with a full season premiere recap, I’m going to hit a few highlights and link to the GoT recaps I like.  I’ll let you know what you need to know, what questions are driving me batty, and where to find more quality commentary.

Flora and Fawning

A nice floral arrangement can transform a living space and transform my mood.  However, these days I’m ballin’ on a budget–and flowers definitely fall on the side of expendable luxury.  The solution:  by shopping at my local florist, I’ve found a way to get my flowers on the cheap.

Let’s Get Lit

Now that the warm weather is here to stay, I’ve retired the winter scents (see ya later, Gingerbread!) and I’m all about the spring and summer candles.  For spring, I love scents that are fruity, floral and lightly sweet.  Here are some of my favorite affordable scented candles for warm weather, after the jump.

Say It With Cake!

image

I love this idea from my instructor Terri, who has taught me so much about decorating cakes.  One of Terri’s signature cake designs is the one word cake.  I took a page from her book for this cake.  I cannot think of a better word to describe my experience learning from Terri.  Thank you, Terri!  I can’t wait to take another class with you.

The cake pictured above is a classic white cake decorated using Wilton’s Ready to Use Decorator’s Icing, with techniques I learned in Wilton Course 1: Building Buttercream Skills.
